Opera Seasonal listings in the mid-Atlantic region

The Seasonal Listings begin with operas that are being performed in the 2023-2024 season, and previous seasons follow as far back as 2015-2016. Additional listings are added as discovered; reader contributions always welcomed. While the opera season for the large companies runs from September until May, others have performances in the summer and some only in the summer, especially festivals. Major venues are exciting because they are more likely to have major opera stars, fuller orchestras, and more lavish staging. Smaller venues are exciting because they are more likely to use younger, upcoming talent, be more adventurous in opera selections and staging, and put you in seats closer to the action, while being less expensive.

There is opera happening somewhere not too far from you. And many others close enough for an opera mini-vacation to interesting cities in the mid-Atlantic region. Opera live is not the only way, but it is the best way to experience opera.

Important to consult website or box office for venue hosting the opera of choice and look carefully at the details.
Operas are not performed each day in between inclusive dates.
Lead performers may differ for the same opera on different dates.
Venues may offer special discounts and student prices.
